We’ll be closed on Monday, the 4th of July.
We will be here as usual this weekend, though, so come enjoy French Press Friday, and get lots of gelato, iced lattes and fruit smoothies to cool off this weekend. Have a great long weekend, everyone!

This Sunday, Fathers Day, we’ll CLOSE at NOON, so we can all spend a little more time with the most important men in our lives, our dads. Happy Fathers Day to all you daddios out there!
One of our customers described the aroma of brewing Finca el Puente from Honduras as “good enough to eat.” Rich aromas and refined flavor are what this perennial favorite is all about. Read more about it on our Coffee Page/Americas, and at our roaster’s website, www.counterculturecoffee.com.
This coffee is nicknamed the Purple Princess, for its purple fruit and lavender notes. Delicious hot, delicious iced, you can get it now for $2 off the regular pound price. Gotta love the Staff Pick Coffee!
We’ll be CLOSED all day this Monday, May 30th.
We’ll open as usual at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the last day of May.
Enjoy your long weekend, everyone!
Every month or so, we choose one of our excellent coffees as the Staff Pick. This means a couple of things. First, it means that we want to bring your attention to that coffee, because we find it to be extra-delicious, and perhaps even very different from any coffees we’ve recently had. Sometimes, it’s chosen to introduce a new grower relationship, too. Second, and maybe even more important to you in these times of high gas prices, we take $2 off the pound price, to give you a little extra encouragement to try it. All in all, a pretty sweet thing, this Blue Horse Coffee Staff Pick.
Our new Staff Pick is called Konga. It is a washed coffee from the legendary coffee village of Yirgacheffe, in southern Ethiopia. The farmers’ cooperative, called Konga, grows the coffee trees high in the mountains, carefully harvesting the best cherries, and carefully washes the fruit to reveal the beans. Their hard work and careful attention to their craft have yielded the most delicious washed Yirgacheffe we’ve tasted in years.
As is typical of these coffees, this coffee is roasted a touch lighter, in order to fully bring all its flavors to the fore. And what flavors! It’s full of bright flowers, honey sweetness, and jasmine. If Earl Grey produced a coffee – this would be it. It’s simply delicious, that’s for sure. And when warm weather returns, brew some of this at extra strength, let it cool for a while, then put it over a handful of ice cubes. Putting this coffee over ice does not dilute it in the least – it’s just as flavorful, and refreshing to boot!
This is the perfect summer coffee. We’re proud to offer this Konga to you as our Staff Pick.
It’s important to us that Blue Horse staff spend quality time with our moms. As we do every year, we are closing early on Mothers Day. So this Sunday, May 8th, we will open at the usual time of 8 a.m., and we will CLOSE AT NOON. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this early closing.
All you moms out there, have a wonderful Mothers Day!
For a very short time, we have an absolutely delicious coffee from the Cinco de Junio farmers cooperative, from Las Sabanas, Nicaragua.
Year after year, the Cafe San Ramon is a customer and staff favorite. Due to shipping problems, this year’s Cafe San Ramon didn’t make it to roast. We were sad.
Now, we are happy! Our roaster brought in the Cinco de Junio, roasted it to perfection, and now we bring it to you.
This coffee is sooooo good. It’s full of that signature Nicaraguan sweetness, some toffee notes, then, a hint of some barely-ripened fruit, like plum and apple. Wow, this is a wonderful coffee.
Sadly, this is a very small lot, so we’ll only have it for another week or so. Please be sure to get in and get some, or if you live too far away (like Robert and Sara), call or email us and we’ll gladly ship it to you.
We will be closed all day this Sunday, April 24th. Please be sure to get the coffee you need for dinner by 4 p.m. Saturday, and hey, don’t forget, you can also get our wonderful new gelato by the pint. Bring some to dinner, and you’ll be more popular than the Easter Bunny!
Beginning this Friday, April 1, our business hours will be:
Monday – Friday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Yeah, for real! To celebrate the arrival of spring, this Sunday, 3/20, we’ll give a free small gelato to each person who buys a drink. This offer is from noon until we close at 4, and all you have to do is buy at least a small coffee (or equivalent-price drink), and we’ll give you a small gelato.
We’ve got new, locally-made gelato, and flavors include dark chocolate, raspberry truffle, nutty buddy, vanilla caramel cashew, stracciatella, peanut butter cup, coconut cream pie, and death by chocolate (chocolate with brownie and chocolate chunks, each serving accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Dr. G., Medical Examiner).
So come kick off spring in the best way possible, at Blue Horse Coffee!
